Taormina Madonna Rocca through via Branco

Taormina Branco Madonna Rocca Crucis route map

The route is short and slightly demanding. The departure is from Corso Umberto and continues towards the Zappulla area taking via Cappuccini. Near the elementary schools there is a sign for Salita Branco.

This road runs along the north side of the promontory on which the ancient Norman Castle stands. This stretch of the route is a bit run down but can be covered safely.

Continuing you will arrive at the intersection with the SP10 where there is an old craft workshop of artistic objects. Its imprint can be recognized on the prospectus.

From here continue on the left to reach the church of the Madonna Rocca with the Norman Castle above it. The panorama is enviable. With an optical zoom (and not software) you can take beautiful photos of the ancient theater, the bay and Mount Etna.

Also visit the interior of the church partly carved into the rock.

From here starts the staircase called the Via Crucis. Along it you will find sculptures representing the 12 stations of the Via Crucis.

The staircase comes out on the SP10 in Taormina. In front of it there are other stairs that will lead to Corso Umberto.
